Listed Building: QUEENSBURY (NUMBER 41) (1245528)

Terrace of 8 houses. 1837-40, No.41 refronted and altered late C19. By TE Owen. Stuccoed. Welsh slate roofs except Nos 39 and 41 which have interlocking tiles, Nos 29 and 39 hipped, No.43 has pair hipped roofs, rendered stack to left and right of No.29, left of No.33 and on right of Nos 35-43. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and basement except No.31 with 2 storeys and basement, 17 bays (1 wide:3:2:2:2:2:3:2 wide); Nos 29 and 43 have flanking paired Corinthian pilasters with entablature over first floor, then squat Tuscan pilasters up to eaves. Nos 31-41 have rusticated ground floors. No.29 has at centre a c1880 restored conservatory. On first floor is a flat-fronted round-cornered oriel with 8-pane centre sash and curved 8-pane flanking sashes, pilasters divide lights supported on shaped brackets, fascia and flat lead roof. Sash on second floor with 4-pane upper leaf and 2-pane lower. Return on left has similar quoin pilasters and entablature. To left, the recessed front facing Sussex Road has a 4-panelled door set within porch. On left is a 12-pane sash, 12 pane unequal sash on first floor and 6-pane sash to second floor. On far right of terrace No.43 has similar slightly projecting left part except ground floor has a tripartite window with centre 8-pane casement and 4-pane flanking casements. To left of right recessed part is a 1-storey projecting porch, 4 stone steps approach a 2-leaf 6 panelled door with fanlight set under round stuccoed arch, moulded architrave, flanking pilasters and block parapet. On right is a 2-storey bow window with 2 and on first floor three 4-pane sashes each set under flat stuccoed arch, dentil band cornice and flat roof. No.31 has at centre a 4-panelled door with fanlight. To left and right is a round-headed 8-pane sash with margin and narrow central glazing. Door and windows are set within recessed arcade with moulded band at impost level. Sillband at first floor with three 12-pane sashes each set under flat arch, band cornice and block parapet. No.33 has on right a C20 door with fanlight. On left a margin glazed round-headed sash. First floor sillband runs across Nos 33-39, 12-pane sash and on right 2 narrow mullioned 4-pane sashes each set under flat stuccoed arch, moulded band at second floor runs across Nos 33-39, 6-pane sash and on right 2 narrow mullioned sashes. No.35 has on left a C20 door with fanlight. To right is a 16-pane round-headed sash. First floor has a 9-pane sash and second floor a 6-pane sash each set under flat stuccoed arch. No.37 has on right a 2-leaf 4-panelled door with fanlight, to left a 16-pane round-headed sash, on first floor a 12-pane sash and narrow 4-pane sash to right each set under flat stuccoed arch. No.39 has on left a 2-leaf 6-panelled door with fanlight. On right a 16-pane round-headed sash and flanking door and window are 3 small 4-pane sashes each set under flat arch. First floor has 12-pane sash and second floor a 6-pane sash. No.41 has at centre a 2-leaf 8 raised and moulded panelled door with fanlight set within projecting 1-storey open porch with flanking Tuscan pilasters, dentil band cornice and balustrade. To left and right is a round-headed sash. On first floor are 3 sashes each set under flat arch, flanking Corinthian pilasters and triangular pediment. At second floor bracketed sillband course, 3 sashes each set under cambered arch with eaved architrave; bracketed cornice and balustrade. INTERIOR not inspected.
