Listed Building: ANNESLEY HOUSE (1387149)

Villa, later school of Seamanship and Navigation, now house. 1844. By TE Owen. Stuccoed. Low pitch Welsh slate roofs, hipped to west wing. Rendered stack on right of east wing and on left of west wing. Irregular plan. EXTERIOR: east wing 2 storeys, basement and attic, west wing 2 storeys. 4 bays (bay 3 blind). North elevation facing Sussex Terrace has on the right a 2-storey lean-to section attached to the west wing with on right a 1-storey projecting porch with 3 narrow arched arcaded openings divided by broad stuccoed pilasters, recessed 4-panelled door with overlight, small narrow round-headed sash on left, panelled parapet with Vitruvian scrolls on return. On each return is a small round-headed opening with iron lattice grille. To left of porch is a sash set under flat stuccoed arch. On first floor to right is a 2-leaf 4-pane casement, transom and fixed round-headed light set under round stuccoed arch within facing gable with shaped stuccoed brackets to projecting verge, and on right of recessed west wing is a 4-pane sash set under eaves. On left return is a sash with at first floor a 4-pane sash each set under flat stuccoed arch. Further left within the west wing face is a sash and on first floor a 4-pane sash set under eaves. On left the recessed central part has a wide sash, first floor band, 2-leaf 6-pane casement. To left the projecting north face of east wing has band rusticated ground floor which continues on left return. Sash set under flat stuccoed arch with incised voussoirs, band course, moulded first floor sillband with blinded window. Set within facing gable is a 2-leaf 6-pane attic casement, projecting bracketed gable verge. On left return is a tripartite window with 3 narrow sashes set under flat stuccoed arch with incised voussoirs, plain band course, first floor sillband with 2 sashes each set within a moulded architrave with keystone, moulded band course, projecting bracketed eaves. Further left the lower wing has 3 sashes on ground and first floors each set under flat stuccoed arch. INTERIOR not inspected.
