Listed Building: STEAD MONUMENT APPROXIMATELY 7 METRES NORTH OF CHANCEL OF CHURCH OF ST PETER AND ST PAUL (1333425)

Chest tomb. c1811. Ashlar. Recessed fluted pilasters at each corner with ovolo and scotia moulded cap and scotia and forus moulded base set on plinth with projecting base. Cornice with vertical incised dressings and moulded and weathered top slab set back from cornice with cavetto and beaded moulded base. Moulded framed panel on long side facing west with inscription which reads "Sacred to the memory of Mary Rood wife of James Wood Stead who departed this life the 29th of January 1811 aged 49 years. Also five children of the above viz: James aged 9 years and Robert and Martha who died in their infancy. Mary Ann Stead died 11th April 18-- aged 54". On the east side inscription reads "Sacred to the memory of James Wood Stead died 8th October 18--". Remainder of inscription illegible. Plinth stonework broken at corners.
