Listed Building: NUMBERS 1-6 (CONSECUTIVE) AND ATTACHED RAILINGS (1387225)

Terrace of 6 houses. 1854-5. By TE Owen. Stuccoed. Low pitch Welsh slated roof, pyramidal to end houses, rendered stack with moulded cap on left of each house. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, end houses 4 storeys. 11 bays (1 wide/1/2/2/2/2/1wide). Banded rustication to ground floor except 4 storey part of left end house. End houses are taller and project forward. To the right of each of the 4 middle houses and the 3-storey part of left end house is a projecting porch with a horseshoe arched opening with incised voussoirs, cornice at balcony level. 4 stone steps approach recessed panelled door with overlight, Nos 1 and 4 with 3-panelled door, No.2 has 4 panels and Nos 3 and 5 a 2-panelled door. On left to each of the middle houses is a 6-pane sash set under flat stuccoed arch. Low cast-iron railings to each basement area. Running across first floor is a trellis verandah with iron balcony, ornately patterned iron rails projecting over each porch, fretted eaves and lead covered lean-to roof. At first floor each of the middle houses has two 12-pane full height sashes approaching balcony. Second floor sillband and two 6-pane sashes each set under flat stuccoed arch. 3-storey part of left end house has 1 similar first and second floor sash. Projecting eaves. Each of the end houses has a 4-pane sash. On first floor is a tripartite oriel window supported on 4 ornate brackets, three 4-pane sashes and a narrow 4-pane sash on each side, cornice and lead tented roof. To second and third floors is a 6-pane sash set under flat stuccoed arch, moulded band between. Moulded architrave to second floor sash of right end house. Projecting eaves with very long shaped eaves brackets to corners and flanking third floor sash, pyramidal roof with iron finial. Right end house has on the right a 2-storey entrance wing, projecting band rusticated porch with slate hood, recessed 4 flush panelled door with fanlight. Glazed timber first floor with lean-to roof, 3 fixed 4-pane casements to front and right return each with wood cambered head. On right return are three 12-pane round-headed casements and on first floor to right of timber front is a 4-pane sash. Set at right angles is a recessed wing with tripartite bay window with 3-pane casements. On first floor is a 12-pane sash and on second floor a 6-pane sash, facing gable. INTERIOR not inspected.
