Listed Building: CHURCH OF ST PATRICK (1387112)

Church. 1906. By GE Smith. Red brick in stretcher bond. Slate roof. PLAN: 5-bay nave. Sanctuary at west end (liturgical east). North wing with central main entrance porch and vestibule with chapel and balcony stairs to east and community room to west. South wing has balcony stairs to east with choir vestry and sacristy chapel to west. EXTERIOR: north face: central 3 bays project with porch opening at centre, round stone arch and jambs. At rear is a 2-leaf round-headed door with lower boarded panels and each leaf has 6-pane top panel. Stone ogee dripstone over entrance, flat stone dentilled cornice and niche with moulded round stone arch, imposts and short flanking attached columns with foliated capitals set within recessed corners, rusticated stone jambs. Flanking the porch, and at each end, is a battered brick pilaster terminating above eaves with slightly curved stone coping. On each side of porch the bay has a stone 3-light traceried window with wide centre light and narrow flanking lights, round stone arch, keystone and rusticated jambs, leaded lights. The porch and each flanking bay has a facing semicircular stone coped gable with kneelers set between pilasters. At far left (east) the recessed chapel has at high level a 2-light wide transomed and mullioned stone window with leaded lights set under flat stone eaved arch. At far right (west) is a semicircular 3-light stone mullioned window with leaded lights. West face: at centre of nave are 5 mullioned and traceried stone windows with leaded lights, each set under round-headed stone arch. Centre 3 windows taller than flanking. Stone oculus set in facing stone coped gable with kneelers. Far left (north) wing has facing semicircular stone coped gable. East face: on right (north) is a slightly projecting porch with recessed 2-leaf boarded door, upper part glazed with leaded lights set under round stone arch, splayed and curved stone jambs, keystone and keyed jambs, serpentine moulded stone coping. At first floor are two 2-light stone mullioned windows with leaded lights, splayed stone jambs, and set under flat stone arch. Moulded brick eaves. To left (south) is the slightly projecting nave with 5-light stone mullioned and transomed window with leaded lights, keystone and rusticated jambs, each light with round stone arch. Above is a large 7-light Geometrical traceried stone window with leaded lights set under segmental stone arch, rusticated jambs. Facing semicircular stone coped gable. Round stone turret to each side of nave, each with 4 corner tapering columns rising above eaves cornice, stone dome. Each side of turret has a 2-light stone traceried window. To left (south) is a porch with 2-leaf door and high level window similar to far right. INTERIOR: 5-bay nave has 4 curved hammer beam trusses with moulded wall posts supported on stone corbels, boarded ceiling to underside of rafters. Balcony at east end with moulded timber front panels. Set in front of east window. Sanctuary at west (liturgical east) end with traceried windows set within recessed wall face with round arch. Church windows have partial stained glass.
