Listed Building: YORKSHIRE GREY PUBLIC HOUSE (1104326)

Public house, now public house and restaurant. 1897. By AH Bone. MATERIALS: Red brick in Flemish bond, stone dressings. Steep pitched Welsh slated roof with moulded and pierced ridge tiles. Brick stack on left. EXTERIOR: three storeys, four bays. Ground floor windows and entrances have flanking fluted Ionic pilasters. Facade facing Guildhall Walk has on left within the splayed corner a two-leaf six-panelled door with overlight set under flat stone arch, projecting flat hood supported on pair of heavy shaped and moulded brackets; fascia and cornice. Tripartite stone canted bay window to first and second floors each with centre sash, lower leaf two panes, upper leaf eight panes with two large lower panes, narrow flanking sashes set under flat stone arch, recessed stone head panel, moulded sillband; stone frieze and cornice, recessed brick parapet with moulded stone panel with scrolled sides, date stone 1897. On far right set back within open lobby is a half-glazed door with three moulded narrow panels and side screens. Opening has recessed round stone arch with keystone, flat stone arch across recess at springing line. Pair brackets similar to left entrance hood support projecting entablature with pediment and flanking urns. Between entrances are two large transomed casements, three panes over transoms set under recessed flat stone arch with facing stilted segmental arch, splayed stone jambs and sill, recessed apron with dentil course through centre, fascia and cornice. First and second floors each have three sashes, each upper leaf eight panes and lower leaf two panes, shouldered stone architrave, flat arch with patterned indents, stone steps in brickwork flanking architraves. Each first floor sash has stone pediment with head carving in tympanum, stone sillband. Second floor has moulded stone band at window head level, frieze and cornice, recessed stone head panel with carved relief; recessed brick parapet with four moulded stone panels each with at centre square casement and two small flanking round-headed casements, moulded stone coping. Left return facing Alec Rose Lane is similar three bays wide and at left a two-storey wing three bays wide. INTERIOR: has two tiled murals by "Carter and Co., tile makers, Poole" .
