Listed Building: 51 AND 53 KENT ROAD, SOUTHSEA (1245533)

Pair of semi detached villas, No.51 now 3 flats, No.53 offices and flat. 1844. By TE Owen. Stuccoed. Welsh slate roof, centre of No.51 hipped and No.53 has pair of hipped roofs, No.51 has a rendered stack to left and right of centre part, and No.53 has similar stack to left and right. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, No.51 has flanking 2 storey parts, Nos 51 and 53 each have 4 bays. Central 3-storey part of No.51 and left part of No.53 each have rusticated flanking quoin strips to ground and first floors with incised panelled strips to second floor. Recessed 2-storey right part of No.51 has 4-panelled door on left, upper panels glazed, narrow long flanking fixed casements, all set within projecting rusticated flat roofed porch, cornice and broken parapet with inset iron railings. On right is a 4-pane sash and on first floor two 6-pane sashes, each set under flat stuccoed arch with incised voussoirs, first floor moulded band and sillband. At centre is a 2-storey tripartite canted bay to ground and first floor, each with centre 6-pane sash and flanking narrow sashes, coped parapet. Second floor has a 6-pane sash. On left, 2-storey part has on ground and first floor a 6-pane sash each set under flat stuccoed arch with incised voussoirs. Right part of No.53 is recessed and has on left a 2-storey projecting entrance porch with 6-panelled door and overlight, 12-pane sash on first floor, cornice and block parapet. On right is a C20 extension with 16-pane sash to first and second floors. On left No.53 has a 2-storey bow window with two 16-pane sashes on each floor, each set under cambered arch, cornice and parapet with iron guard rails to balcony.
