Event/Activity EPM140 - Test Pit, Fort Southwick
Technique(s)
Date
1997
Organisation
English Heritage
Description
A test-pit was excavated on the firing step on the face of the north rampart of Fort Southwick by the English Heritage Central Archaeology Service, as part of a structural investigation into the causes of deterioration of the fabric of the moat walls. The excavation revealed part of a land-drain. This would have been one of many features formerly used to drain rainwater from the earthen ramparts.
OASIS record (ID:nmr1-523126) in ADS library gives dates of work as 20th to the 24th January 1997. The record also records that a photographic survey took place.
