Description

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by Southampton Archaeology Unit on groundworks for a new three and four storey extension to the New Theatre Royal in May 2013. The groundworks comprised one trench, and level reduction of 22m wide, 33m long and 1m-1.3m deep across the majority of the site. The trench was excavated by mechanical excavator under archaeological supervision, and the sections cleaned and recorded. The watching brief revealed features and finds from the prehistoric, late medieval, post-medieval and modern periods. Accession number: 2013/535
