Technique(s)
Date
1970
Organisation
Portsmouth Museum Service
Description
Portsmouth Museum Service excavated trial trenches at Paulsgrove House in November 1970, prior to the demolition of the building in the December of that year to make way for the M27 motorway. The work was carried out in order to assess whether there was any evidence of occupation on the site prior to 1580. The original 17th century structure was also examined following the removal of all later additions.
The investigations revealed an almost intact c.mid-17th century rectangular stone-built outshot building with wooden partitions.
