Description

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by AOC Archaeology at Portsdown Technology Park between the 18th February and the 8th July 2019, prior to the construction of a new two-storey building at the site. Buildings which formerly occupied the site were demolished before the watching brief commenced. Archaeological monitoring took place on general ground reduction and associated groundworks within the areas of the main building footprint, haul road, services, crane base and attenuation tank. No archaeological features or horizons were observed during the watching brief. This was thought to be due to extensive landscaping activity which had taken place when a building was constructed on the site during the 1950s. This had included cutting away a section of the chalk escarpment into the side of Portsdown Hill, in which the current development is situated. 2019/10
