Event/Activity EPM270 - Recording and monitoring at the Wagon Shed Fort Cumberland

A survey/building recording of the 19th century Wagon Shed at Fort Cumberland was carried out by the English Heritage Centre for Archaeology in response to a request by the Inspector of Ancient Monuments that a record be made prior to conservation work taking place. The work was undertaken in two phases. The first phase carried out in June and July 1999 comprised the survey and recording of surviving timber-framing and the southern brick wall of the building (see EPM269). This record relates to the second phase of work carried out in January and February 2000 which involved the recording of the concrete floor and monitoring and recording of the building's restoration. The recording of the concrete floor had been postponed from the first phase of works as the Wagon Shed had become unsafe. The monitoring and recording of the restoration of the shed included small-scale excavations required for timber post foundations and services.
