Event/Activity EPM274 - Archaeological evaluation at Moneyfield Sports and Social Club, Moneyfields Avenue, Portsmouth

An archaeological evaluation was carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology on the site of the Moneyfields Sports and Social Club between the 1st and 8th December 2020. The evaluation was a condition of planning permission for a development proposal which comprised the constuction a community facility, AGP playing pitch, parking and residential buildings. A total of 12 trenches measuring 25m x 2m were excavated in order to ascertain the archaeological potential of the site. The deposit sequence in the trenches indicated that the site had been levelled previously. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were recorded and it was concluded that the site had no significant archaeological potential.
