Description
A survey of the former hospital complex at Fort Cumberland was carried out by the English Heritage Centre for Archaeology (CfA) between 1999 and 2001 (exact date not recorded in report). The survey was undertaken during the relocation of the English Hertiage Ancient Monument Laboratory from London to Fort Cumberland and formed part of a programme of conservation and refurbishment works at the site.
A rectified photography and paint analysis had been subcontracted by Historic Properties South East prior to the survey taking place, the results of which were made available for the analytical survey carried out by CfA which included the enhancement of the rectified photography of both the interior and exterior elevations.
The survey identified nine phases of building and modification, including post-war alterations and conservation work carried out immediately prior to/at the time of the survey took place.
