Event/Activity EPM32 - Wymering Methodist Church, Sixth Avenue, Cosham

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken at Wymering Methodist Church in 2004. No archaeological finds were made during the watching brief undertaken on the development plot. Documentary research suggests that the medieval village of Wymering was really a hamlet, being part of a dispersed settlement pattern characteristic of southern Hampshire. The settlement did not appear to extend over the development plot, which is shown as an arable field during the 19th century. Suburban sprawl did not seriously begin in Wymering until after 1920. The present Methodist Church was built between 1932 and 1938, with the extension on the present plot being built later. Accession No: 2002/206
