Description

HWTMA were commissioned by Hampshire County Council to undertake a site investigation at Sword Sands, Langstone Harbour, following the recovery of human remains from the area. The survey consisted of an initial field walking over the sandbank to identify areas of interest, which were then photographed and their position noted. They were then either recovered or left in-situ. There was no visible evidence of articulated human remains eroding from the sandbank. Although further bone finds were made, they did not appear to be human. The finds discovered at Sword Sands were considered to be typical of the material eroding from deposits around Langstone Harbour. Althoughno further immediate survey work was required, it was thought that it may be useful to undertake periodic visits to Sword Sands to monitor the erosion of any sites or finds.
