Description

Archaeological watching brief carried out on groundworks for a residential development at Trafalgar Place, Fratton, Portsmouth. A 19th century brick-lined well was observed and a small assemblage of 19th and 20th century finds were recovered. Although 19th and 20th century disturbance and levelling layers were observed, the survival of natural brickearth below the modern deposits shows this activity would not have completely destroyed any potential archaeology. No direct evidence of the survival of medieval structures or features was observed, but it was clear that bomb damage was relatively superficial. Accession number: 2006/252
