Description

Observations were carried out by Southampton Archaeology Unit during the excavation of foundation trenches for two new terraced houses in 2006. The groundworks revealed the remains of brick foundations belonging to the early modern buildings which had previously occupied the site. A deposit of animal bones, one of which had been sawn, probably related to occupation on the site prior to the construction of these buildings. Two stone features may have represented the foundations of an earlier structure, although no dating evidence was recovered. Finds included 17th-19th century clay tabacco pipe and 19th century pottery. Accession number: 2006/1756
