Event/Activity EPM99 - Archaeological Watching Brief on Land Adjacent to 100 St. Thomas's Street, Portsmouth

An archaeological watching brief was carried out by West Sussex Archaeology on the 5th and 8th March 2010, during groundworks for a new dwelling house on land adjacent to 100 Thomas' Street. An existing garage was demolished before the foundation trenches were excavated. The only archaeological features revealed during the work were three pits. Two of these were undated and probably related to horticultural activity. The third may have been related to post-medieval brickearth extraction. Cartographic evidence suggests the site was used as a garden until the late 19th century. Accession number: 2009/540
