Monument MPM1066 - Former prehistoric woodland, North of Russells Lake

Peat shelf with in situ tree trunks, branches and roots belonging to former prehistoric woodland. One oak branch was rasiocarbon dated to 3340-2910 cal BC.

Three dispersed in situ oak and willow trunks, one group of roots (willow), and two branches (oak) on the northern edge of Russell's Lake. This area of preserved wood lay on a 0.2m deep peat shelf at approximately 0.5m OD and was dispersed over an area of about 25m x 12m near the edge of the peat shelf. Branches/fallen trunk c. 0.2m in diameter. Main trunk/branch over 4m long. Oak branch AE radiocarbon dated to 3350-2910 cal BC. [1]
