Full Description

Old mooring anchor, on north side of Portchester Lake channel, 100 metres north of Fairway marker post. Exposed at about half tide. Singled fluked with pronounced 'dorsal fin' type feature - possibly to facilitate pulling out to a mooring position. Wooden composite stock with iron bands round square section 0 - about 50% rotted away. The chain is still attached and leading across a mud flat to deep water. Site conditions: very soft mud.

Anchor recorded in situ in 1995 by The Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology.
