Full Description
Well, found near the back of the old fire station near the Guildhall in 1972. Discovered by a workman when the ground crumbled beneath the mechanical excavator he was using. Water was pumped from the well by firemen, and the silt was examined on site by Portsmouth Museum Service Curator of Archaeology, David Rudkin. There is no mention of archaeological finds. The newspaper article reported the well as being 170 years old. Exact location unknown.
