Monument MPM1223 - 17th-18th century occupation, Portsmouth Power Station

An excavation on the site of the coal yard to the former Portsmouth Power Station in 1984 revealed a scatter of late 17th-18th century pottery, clay pipe and bottle glass over the southern part of the site. A large quantity of similar material dating to c.1680-1700 was found in a large pit.

Early 17th century burials (MPM1222), sherds of medieval coarseware pottery (MPM2143) and the remains of the Colewort Barracks (MPM380) were also encountered on the site.
