Monument MPM1285 - Medieval wall and floor, Domus Dei

Several features interpreted as belonging to the medieval Domus Dei hospital were revealed during excavations in 2009. These comprised a possible buried ground surface containing sherds of 13th/14th century pottery, and a wall butted by a floor surface.

Several features interpreted as relating to the medieval Domus Dei hospital complex were recorded during excavations on Governor's Green in 2009. A deposit, possibly a buried ground surface, contained sherds of 13th/14th century pottery. The only structural remains were a wall, butted by a floor surface. These structures were not investigated further, owing to time constraints and overlying archaeology relating to a 16th century stable block (MPM1284) and Second World War Nissen Hut (MPM1286). The medieval wall had been reused for the foundations of the former. All of the features were recorded in Trench 1, one of four trenches excavated during investigations on the site.
