Building MPM1294 - St. Magaret's Church, Highland Road,

Anglican Church built between 1902 and 1903, designed by John T. Lee in a 'simplified Gothic' style. The church replaced an iron chapel, St Columba's Mission, which had been erected on the site in 1899. The church was consecrated in 1903, but the nave was not built until 1908-1910, the iron chapel serving as a temporary nave until this date. The brass lectern is in the 'Arts and Crafts' style. A stained glass window in the south aisle is a Memorial to the 1939-45 War. A plaque listing the names of those servicemen who were killed during the conflict was added c30 years later. The circular window above the Altar of the Majestas by Christopher Webb dates to 1960. The west end of the church was added in 1965. The altar from the earlier iron chapel was reused in St Columba's Chapel, behind which are hand carved lime wood statues. [1]

St Margaret's was permanently closed in December 2015 due to structural problems. [3]

Red brick, gothic church built 1902/3, with the part adjoining the road finished in 1965; flying buttresses over aisles. Interesting internal fittings include "Arts & Crafts" lectern. Designed by J T Lee. [2]
