Find Spot MPM1370 - Finds, Garden of 19 Lombard Street

Finds recovered from the backgarden of 19 Lombard Street, including clay pipes, pottery, animal bone, glass fragments/bottles and cobblestones. Most of the finds were reported as dating to the 17th century, although some may have been medieval.

Finds recovered from the backgarden of 19 Lombard Street, Old Portsmouth in 1975 by the owners of the property. According to an article in the Portsmouth Evening News, the objects included clay pipes, crockery, animal bone (cow), glass fragments/bottles, fragments of chamber pot, tankards and cobblestones. Most of the finds were said to date to the 17th century, although some may have been 13th century. The garden was within the immediate area of the Oyster Street excavations which took place between 1968 and 1971, and revealed evidence of continious occupation in this area of Old Portsmouth from the late 12th century onwards.
