Memorial stone to Sgt. HH (Paddy) Adair of the Royal Air Force, who died when his Hurricane fighter aircraft AK-D-V7602 was shot down and crashed at a nearby site on 6th November 1940.

Memorial stone for Sgt. HH (Paddy) Adair of the Royal Air Force. He died when his Hurricane fighter aircraft AK-D-V7602 was shot down and crashed on 6th November 1940. Sgt. Adair was serving in 213 Squadron based at Tangmere. The wreck site (see MPM1373) was excavated in 1979 by the Wealden Aviation Archaeological Group. His remains were recovered and disposal took place at Porchester Crematorium on 29th October 1979.

The plaque on the memorial stone reads:

WHILST DEFENDING PORTSMOUTH.

HE FOUGHT AGAINST SUPERIOR

ODDS AND LOST HIS YOUNG
