Monument MPM1460 - Concrete plinth, East Street

A major concrete plinth, believed to be associated with the construction of the harbour, recorded during a watching brief in East Street in 2012. The plinth was situated 0.65m below the present ground surface. It was sealed to a depth of approximately 0.40m at its western end by a friable mid-dark brown silt deposit corresponding to the made ground, with frequent inclusions of CBM (ceramic building material), broken concrete and stony rubble, wood fragments and some bone. A modern reddish concrete surface identified immediately under the modern concrete behind the harbour post-dated the plinth. This concrete surface was also identified under the modern concrete of the Camber Quay (see MPM1459).
