Find Spot MPM151 - Roman Coin Hoard from Drayton

Hoard of 9 Roman silver coins, found during metal detecting on Portsdown Hill north of Drayton Lane in 1976. The coins were declared treasure trove, and were subsequently purchased by Portsmouth Museum (accession number 1976/365).

The coins were identified as: 2 coins of Valerianus (254 - 260 AD); 3 coins of Gallienus (254 - 268 AD); 3 coins of Postumus (259 - 267 AD). It was not possible to identify the ninth coin. [1]

Recorded in Portsmouth Museum database as hoard of 10 late-third century Roman coins, all silver Antoniniani. Two Valerian, three Gallienus (?), four Postumous, one unidentifiable. Found off Drayton Lane.

However, individual coins recorded as 3 Valerian, 4 Postumus and 3 Gallienus (accession numbers 1976/365/1-10). [2]
