Monument MPM1532 - Shallow Limestone Wall, Pembroke Path

Shallow limestone wall footings on the southern edge of Pembroke Path, revealed during a watching brief in 2010. This wall may represent the remains of earlier path edges. Brick wall footings found at the western end of the path are thought to have served the same function (see MPM1533).

A modern soil layer containing abundant brick was observed in the same trench as this wall. This layer was also found slightly to the east, where brick wall footings belonging to a 20th century Drill Hall were revealed, and on the north face of a brick wall footing thought to relate to the 19th century revetment walls of Long Curtain (see MPM1525). It is possible the layer may represent a back-filled cellar.
