Monument MPM1567 - Former post-medieval forge, Oyster Street

The remains of a post-medieval forge, revealed during excavations in Oyster Street in 1968-71. The forge dated to the late-16th to late-17th century period.

The remains of a forge dating to the late-16th to late-17th century, recorded during excavations in Oyster Street in 1968-71. The remains consisted of an apsidal-shaped structure with stone walls and a red-brick floor. Its infill of soil, ash and clinker contained part of an iron horse shoe and fragments of Surrey-ware pottery. This structure cut the remains of an earlier, 16th century forge (see MPM1562).
