Landscape MPM1715 - Milton Park
Summary
Map
Type and Period (3)
Full Description
Public Park with tennis courts, bowling green and playground. The land was bought for use as a park by Portsmouth Corporation in 1911, following the death of Mr J Goldsmith. The park occupies the site of the former Milton Farm, Middle Farm and Milton Congregational Chapel (built 1842), which were still marked on the 1910 Ordnance Survey map. The modern playground stands on the site of the bandstand. A thatched barn built between 1800 and 1850, probably once part of Middle Farm, still stands in the park and has been converted for use as a theatre (MPM1381).
