Monument MPM1729 - War Memorial, Cathedral Green

War memorial to the First and Second World Wars in the grounds of Portsmouth Cathedral. Stone cross on hexagonal stone plinth, designed by Messrs. Bevis and Son.

War memorial in the form of a stone cross on a three-tiered hexagonal stone plinth. Designed by Messrs. Bevis and Son and unveiled on Sunday the 28th November 1920. On the panels of the centre pier are the names of the fallen and the following inscription:

'To the Glory of God and the immortal memory of those who went forth for us to Fight and Die for Freedom, Honour and Peace in the Great War 1914-1918.
Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee the Crown of Life.'

A memorial plaque to the Second World War reads:

'In memory of our colleagues of Portsmouth Town and the Church Sunday School who lost their lives in the Second World War 1939-1945.'
