Monument MPM1732 - War memorial, St Peter & St Paul churchyard, Wymering

Freestanding wooden war memorial in the south-west corner of the churchyard of St Peter and St Paul, Wymering. The memorial is made of varnished oak with a cedar shingle roof and stained softwood horizontal lapped boarding to back. It is supported on eight oak posts set in concrete. [1]

An inscription in gold paint reads:

'FOR GOD AND COUNTRY'
'Cosham men who made the great sacrifice 1914-1918.'

The memorial was originally situated in the grounds of the Wymering Church Institute in Havant Road until it was moved in 1939. Although originally erected as a memorial to the Great War, the memorial bears the names of local men who lost their lives in both world wars. It has been restored on a number of occasions. [3]
