Full Description
A layer of granite cobbles was observed in a trench on Victory Parade in Portsmouth Dockyard during an archaeological watching brief in c. 1999. The single layer of cobbles was 50mm thick, and had been laid as rectangular blocks bedded on relatively flat fragments of stone. The layer was situated 30mm below the modern tarmac. An anchor was found c. 4m below the cobbled surface.
