Full Description
Capstan base found during an archaeological watching brief at the North Railway Jetty in Portsmouth c1999. The base measured 6m x 2m. The capstan is marked on a plan for a new Boiler House dated 1905. A second capstan was found further north on the same site (see MPM1754).
