Full Description

A large double culvert dating to c1905 was observed during an archaeological watching brief at the North Railway Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard c1999. The culvert had been constructed from two large bore pipes set in concrete. It had been built to increase the discharge of water from an underground reservoir behind Dock No. 6 into the harbour, and ran from an Engine House to the east and underneath an electricity substation.
