Landscape MPM1790 - The Green, Portsmouth Dockyard

Garden in Portsmouth Dockyard known as The Green. The site was used for woodworking during the 18th century when the house carpenters and carvers shops were situated there.

A roughly square area of land situated between South Terrace and Admiralty House known as 'The Green'. It has been used as a garden since the 19th century, and the statue of William III, now in the Porter's Garden, once stood at its centre. The area had previously been used for storing timber and woodworking, and was the site of saw pits and the house carpenters' and carvers' shops during the 18th century.

An air raid shelter was formerly situated in the southeast corner.
