Monument MPM1798 - Site of Lumps Farm

Site of Lumps Farm. A farmstead is marked on maps of this area as early as c1600 until the mid-19th century [1-4]. The 1838 Tithe Apportionment of the Parish of Portsea records a Jonathan Gain as the owner and occupier of the homestead and several surrounding meadows in this year [5]. The site had been redeveloped by 1865 when a house called 'Lumps Villa' appears on the Ordnance Survey map [6].
