Monument MPM1842 - Railway Tracks, north of Dry Dock 4

A pair of 20th century railway tracks were observed in a service trench to the north-east of Dry Dock No. 4 during a watching brief in 2009. The tracks were on a south-west north-east alignment and had been set in modern concrete. Evidence of at least two timber sleepers was observed. They were surrounded by a horizon of crushed brick rubbed which had been used to raise the ground surface. This layer had then been sealed by tarmac. The tracks appeared to enter a promontory that exited between Dry Docks 4 and 5.
