Monument MPM1847 - Wall, Victory Arena

A section of a red-brick wall was observed in several postholes during a watching brief in 2009. The wall was located parallel to the southern edge of the now demolished 20th century Trafalgar Building. It extended on an approximate east-west alignment, and had been truncated by a concrete feature, possibly a drain. The bricks were well fired with a shallow frog and similar to those used in the construction of the Trafalgar Building, suggesting the wall may have belonged to a building of around the same date. The wall had been sealed by a layer of modern ground raising and modern tarmac.

A red-brick wall observed in a posthole a few metres to the north-west may have been part of the same structure. This wall had been constructed using similar bricks and was on roughly the same alignment. It had also been truncated by concrete, and was sealed by a layer of modern ground raising and modern tarmac.
