Full Description
A layer relating to the demolition of the town defences was recorded during an archaeological evaluation in Ravelin Park in 1972. A trench excavated within the area of the covert wall beyond the moat and East Ravelin, revealed a layer of topsoil and demolition debris approximately 0.5m thick which overlay an undisturbed sandy gravel. This continued to a depth of no more than 4.5m.
