Full Description
Silver Roman finger ring found by a metal detectorist in 2014.
Incomplete, of Henig type VIII, bezel missing. Hoop has no decoration until just before the shoulders. On one side there are two pairs of diagonal incisions, one pair either side. The pair of lines are approximately parallel to one another, and run upwards towards the inside. On the other side, just before the shoulder, there appears to be two similar diagonal incisions, though these are singular lines rather than pairs. They run downwards towards the inside, the opposite of the pairs on the other side. Another incision can be seen before th shoulder, running upwards towards the inside. Where the shoulder starts is the widest part of the ring. The shoulder is broadly triangular, tapering inwards slightly and outwards again to produce a small knop either side. The decoration on the shoulders is identical, a pair of grooved 'V' shapes, one inside the other. A line of seven punched dots flank the lines of the outer 'V' on each shoulder. The bezel is roughly oval and may have had a separate setting soldered onto it which is now lost.
