Full Description
Memorial to those who sailed from Spithead to Botany Bay with the First Fleet in 1787, comprising a sculpture on a granite base and plinth. The base and plinth were constructed in 1976, and the sculpture by John Robinson placed in position in 1980. The memorial was unveiled by Elizabeth II on 11th July 1980. The granite is from New South Wales and was a gift from the people of Sydney. The memorial is called 'The Bonds of Friendship'. A twin monument is located in Sydney.
