Full Description
Figurehead of HMS Marlborough situated on the walkway to the north of Blake House at Gunwharf Quays. The figurehead depicts the Duke of Marlborough. HMS Marlborough was built in 1855 as a 6,500 ton 131-gun battle sailing ship. She last went to sea in 1878 and was then used as a training ship before being sold for scrap in 1924/5. The figurehead was saved and was housed at HMS Vernon (Gunwharf) until it's closure in 1995. It returned to the site in 2002 and was placed looking out to sea at the entrance to the harbour.
