Monument MPM1967 - Timber stakes, west side of Langston Harbour

Line of timber stakes observed on the west side of Langstone Harbour during a watching brief on the Anchorage Park coastal defence scheme in 2015. They were thought to have been associated with earlier coastal defences, possibly forming part of an old timber revetment, and may date to the later post-medieval period or earlier 20th century.

Line of timber stakes observed on the west side of Langstone Harbour during a watching brief on the Anchorage Park coastal defence scheme in 2015. The stakes ran parallel to the existing coastal defences immediately east of Eastern Road. Their appearance was similar to the line of timber stakes found near the spit in Portscreek (see MPM1964 and MPM1966) and probably formed part of an old timber revetment or an associated feature linked to the tidal management of the area. They may date to the later post-medieval period or earlier 20th century.
