Full Description

Second World War SWS (Static Water Supply) sign painted on the north wall of 177 Milton Road. The sign consists of an arrow pointing left followed by the letters 'SWS'. The arrow and letters are painted cream on a black background directly onto the brickwork. The arrow has the distance to and location of the static water tank '270 YDS LICHFIELD RD'.

SWS signs directed the Fire Service to the emergency static water tanks that were located around the city for use in fighting fires during and after bombing raids.
