Monument MPM2052 - 18th-20th century dockside structures, Dry Dock No. 3, Portsmouth Dockyard

The remains of late-18th, 19th and 20th century dockside structures relating to the construction of Dry Dock No. 3 in Portsmouth Dockyard recorded during an archaeological investigation between 2010 and 2012.

The remains of various dockside structures dating to the late-18th, 19th and early-20th century observerd during archaeological monitoring around Dry Dock No. 3. Structures included the remains of stairs and chutes built in 1772 to serve the south side of Dry Dock No. 4, part of the inner face of Dry Dock No.4's wall constructed in 1772, probable 19th century timber building foundation pads, the culvert system that originally drained and flooded the dock, a number of disused Pensock valves (sluice gates), and a section of 20th century dockside crane railway.
