Building MPM35 - Sally Port Hotel

Hotel with a late-18th/early-19th century frontage. The building has been known as both the Sally Port Hotel and Sally Port Inn. Pottery and glassware dating to c.1710-1770 was recovered during renovation work at the rear of the building in 1966.

Hotel. Late C18/early C19 front. Stuccoed. Plain tile roof. 4 storeys and attic; 7 bays, 3:1:3, outer sections canted. Fully glazed double door to centre set in moulded architrave and head. Large tripartite bay window with 12-pane sashes to each side of doorway (and running full height). C20 fascia and balcony railing at first floor. 12-pane sash windows to bays and centre on first and second floors, 9 and 6-pane sashes to third floor. 2nd, 4th and 6th windows on second floor have moulded architraves and pediments. Dentilled eaves cornice and coped parapet. Three C20 flat-roofed dormers. INTERIOR not inspected. Pottery and glassware dating to c.1710-1770 was recovered during renovation work at the rear of the building in 1966. The site was originally two buildings, Nos. 57 and 58 High Street, and the material was recovered from both properties. [2, 3]
