Monument MPM384 - King's Ravelin

Site of the King's Ravelin, once part of the former line of fortifications constructed during the 1660s-1680s that protected the town of Portsmouth. Part of the site is now occupied by Pembroke Gardens. The town defences were demolished during the 1860s/1870s.

Site of the King's Ravelin which formed part of the line of defences designed by Sir Bernard de Gomme during the 1660s-1680s. The ravelin protected the curtain wall on the southeast corner of the defences between King's Bastion and Pembroke Bastion. It was a later modification by de Gomme and had been constructed by the mid-18th century. The town defences were demolished during the 1860s/1870s. Part of the site is now occupied by Pembroke Gardens.
